Description of Duke School of Business Video: Nino Fanlo — Chief Financial Officer, SoFi (https://www.sofi.com/)
“Building Enterprises that are Inherently Social.” Banking is broken. The student loan market is broken. SoFi is leveraging technology, data and social impact to create a new model for student lending. To create social enterprise that is sustainable, we cannot bolt a social impact onto the side of a profitable company. Nor can we build a company that fails because it does not deliver shareholder value. We must strike a balance between social good and financial success. We must build businesses that are inherently social.
The Duke Conference on Sustainable Business and Social Impact is an annual event hosted by the Duke MBA Net Impact Club that attracts 400 attendees to The Fuqua School of Business to discuss current issues and opportunities in sustainable and socially responsible business. This video features a keynote speaker at the 2013 conference on Wednesday, February 20th, which focused on “Beyond the Bottom Line” issues and innovations in the fields of Sustainability, Finance, Social and Technology.
