“The Value of Waste.” When Gills Onions peeled their first onion, they realized that waste was going to be a problem, but far from shying away from the challenge they set out to find a solution consistent with their values. The principles of sustainability are embedded in Gills Onions’ core values of doing what is right, accepting personal responsibility and always seeking to improve at every level of their operations. The company has adopted ambitious and meaningful goals to continuously improve their environmental profile, both for near and long term. Nikki will share the goals and steps her team is taking along the way to get “Beyond the Bottom Line.”

The Duke Conference on Sustainable Business and Social Impact is an annual event hosted by the Duke MBA Net Impact Club that attracts 400 attendees to The Fuqua School of Business to discuss current issues and opportunities in sustainable and socially responsible business. This video features a keynote speaker at the 2013 conference on Wednesday, February 20th, which focused on “Beyond the Bottom Line” issues and innovations in the fields of Sustainability, Finance, Social and Technology.
